Greenwood is a small studio crafting considered residential landscapes in Lewes and the surrounding towns. Native and ornamental planting, honest stonework, and the patience to let a garden settle into its own.
Three quietly different ways we partner with homeowners — from the first sketch on tracing paper to the twentieth season of pruning.
From master planning down to the species list, we draw every garden by hand before a single shovel turns. The result is a landscape with intent — RHS-informed planting plans blending native and ornamental species, proper drainage, structural plantings that earn their keep through every season, and hardscape that ages well rather than worn.
The same hands that design and build your landscape are the ones tending it. Weekly visits in season include lawn mowing, edging, hedge cutting, leaf clearance, hand-weeding the beds, and the attentive pruning a mature planting needs. Spring and autumn cleanups bookend the year with care.
Inherited a tired landscape? We diagnose what's failing — compacted soil, drainage solutions for boggy patches, overgrown beds, neglected lawns that have given up — and rebuild from the ground up. Often we save what's worth saving and edit out the rest.
Each project is built around the people who live there — and the land that came before them. Click any image for the longer story.
Most of our projects span six to twelve months from first call to first planting. The work that follows lasts decades.
Dylan walks the property with you for an hour or two. We talk about how you actually live outside, where the morning sun lands, the kids, the dog, the views you want to keep and the ones you don't.
You receive a hand-drawn site plan, a planting list, material samples, and a phased estimate. We refine together over two or three rounds until the design feels right and the budget feels honest.
Our small in-house crew executes the work, from grading to stonework to the final perennial. Dylan is on site daily. We protect the trees, respect the neighbours, and leave the property cleaner than we found it.
A landscape isn't finished on install day — it's begun. We return through the first three years to edit, divide, and replace as needed. Most clients stay with us on a long-term maintenance plan.
Dylan Greenwood is RHS-trained with a diploma in Garden Design from Capel Manor College, where he became fluent in the native ecology of the South Downs and the long tradition of English garden design. He took over his family's lawn-care company in 2014 — a small outfit his father built mowing for the neighbours — and spent the next decade rebuilding it as a full design–build–maintain studio.
Today Greenwood is a team of seven: three designers, four craftspeople, and a horticulturalist who walks every property each season. We take on twelve to fifteen design projects a year so that Dylan can be hands-on with every one of them, from the first sketch through the first decade of pruning.

Dylan came to our first meeting with a notebook and listened for two hours before he sketched a single thing. Six years later, our garden looks more itself every season. He gave us patience, and a plan.Margaret D., Lewes
What I appreciate most is that the team that planted our garden is the same team that prunes it. Nothing gets lost in translation. The hydrangeas have never looked better — and they finally know which ones I love.Henry C., Tunbridge Wells
We interviewed four designers. Dylan was the only one who told us what not to do, and where to save money. That honesty is why we're now in year four together, and why he's designing my mother's garden next.Tom & Sarah F., Hove
